Int. High Court.

'Case no. 41-2019, K. V. Mathew Azhathiveedu murder.
Acused Varun Divakaran.'      the Bench Clerk announced.

After the case has been heard, the Judge passed his verdict.

'The court has found that the evidences submitted here are immaterial and are fabricated by Sub Inspector Diljeet Singh. The court is convicted that the accused has not committed any crime. Hence, under Cr Pc 235 clause 1, the accused has been acquitted.
Law is made to protect the common public. The court is ashamed by the deeds of SI. Diljeet Singh.'

Ext. High Court.

First time in months, Varun walked out of the court without being handcuffed and accompanied by police officers. He walked towards his advocate and thanked her.

Varun walked down the stairs with his head down, by avoiding the news reporters who wanted to hear from him. A girl walked towards Varun and hugged him. Varun looked at the girl and smiled. His eyes were filled with tears of joy and freedom.

When the girl moved aside; Sharun, a 27 year old man put his hand over Varun's shoulder.

'Thanks. Thank you for believing.'     replied Varun, by holding Shaun's hand.

Sharun, the girl and Varun went to the apartment where Varun used to live.

On their way back to home, Varun was thinking about his dad who died of  cardiac arrest when he was arrested.

Varun thinking about the day he told his dad that, he wanted to be a freelance journalist.

Int. Varun's home (Varun's room)

'No! Appu no. You wanted to be a journalist, I supported you. I didn't stop you from choosing a career of your interest. But now, instead of going for a proper job, you are opting to be a free Lancer. Why?'       asked Varun's dad angrily.

'Dad I don't want to do a 9 to 5 job. I have a goal. I want to work freely.'     replied Varun.

'It's not your goal. It's your laziness. You want do nothing. You have no goal, you have no ambition.'     said Varun's dad.

Varun's dad cont'd      'If you do a job, you'll have a fixed source of income.'

'I don't want money. Money doesn't make me happy. I want to do, what I like. '     replied Varun.

'Okay. If you don't want to listen to us, you can get out of my house.'      said Varun's dad, by pointing at the door.

Varun took his bag and started taking out  his clothes from the closet.

'Appu. What are you doing?'    asked Varun's dad, who was confused.

'You asked me to leave.'    replied Varun, by pointing at tge door.

'Stop this nonsense!'     shouted Varun's dad.

Int. Varun's Apartment (Drawing room)

Varun, Sharun and the girl sat on the couch.

'You have changed. You look different.'    said the girl by touching Varun's face.

'When you live with the bad for too long, you become one like them.'     replied Varun by moving the girl's hand.

'Let's not start talking about the past today. It's time to be happy, you are free.'     said Sharun, who trying to cheer up Varun.

'I'm not happy. I can't be. I want to know who was behind...'     said Varun.

'Yes, we all want to know that.'     replied Sharun.

'We need to restart 'Today'.'    said Varun, by looking at an old newspaper kept on the table.
