The next day Teja drags me by the hand to see Kira.

"Tejani, these are not diamonds," Kira says as soon as Teja scatters her pile of rocks all over Kira's desk.

"I am always.. corret," Teja says.

"It is 'correct', Teja. You have such silly names. Not even German."

Kira's gray eyes travel from the rocks to Teja to land on something behind me. at least I believe it is behind me, until she stands up and rips off my jacket.

What are you-

I try to speak, then realize. Kira is fixated on the price tag.

"What are you so concerned about?" I ask, this time in English.

"Where did you go to get this?" Kira asks pointedly.

"Kira, I am- I am leaving soon- and-"

"I know what you did." Kira's voice possesses no mercy. "You're going to that units place, and you stole something. Why would you do that?"

Kira's already caught my gaze, and Teja's too busy trying on the jacket and watching us for me to catch her eye and signal that we need to leave.

Kira has me backed up against her dresser. She backs off and paces.

"Oh my God. You stole. You stole something. I could call the officers."

"Kira, please don't." Panic has edged its way into my words. I'm pleading with Kira, holding out my hands like she's a wild horse and I'm trying to get her to steady.

I can't get in this much trouble. There's no way I can run from those hounds.

"Kira," I begin.
