Chapter Three
The next day during fifth hour, the principal speaks over the intercom. He states something about the football game this Saturday and how it's the first game of the season. It's exciting I guess, if you're actually into football. I, on the other hand, don't really care that much for football. It's just a game where guys catch a ball, throw it across the field into the goal and then slap each others butts. Or at least in the movies they do that. That would be pretty funny to see in real life.

As the announcement finishes up,  the bell rings. I quickly get up and gather up my things, leaving the classroom. Jess bumps into me right away. She looks very excited. Like the kind of excitement that can kill someone. She grabs my arm and drags me off to the side so we don't get ran over while she is talking to me. I really hope her excitement doesn't involve torturing me. I'm actually really worried for how excited she is because it might kill me, not a random person.

"Hey Kat, do you have any plans for Saturday?" Jess asked, grinning and hugging her books to her chest.

"Um...yeah, I was going to sleep in and catch up on the Bachelorette," I lie. I know that she is going to try to get me to come to the football game. Well it's not going to work. I don't want to go and she most likely knows that. She knows that any event with sports makes me want to cringe. Sports are just not my thing.

"You don't even watch that show. You told me two months ago that you can't stand it. So whether you like it or not you're coming to the football game with me. You honestly have no choice here," Jess beamed, using her right hand to twirl a piece of her hair around her finger.

"I really don't like football. you know that," I sighed.

"Come on, it would be fun. And even though you don't like Josh, he is kind of into you. So he would love it if you came. It wold make him happy," Jess explained, a smirking appearing across her lips. Great, whenever she smirks it usually means she's trying to play matchmaker.

"Still a no. And I'm pretty sure Josh hates me too. He almost killed me yesterday," I retort.

"I'm pretty sure he has the hots for you. He is always flirting with you Kat. Look, if you come to the game I'll pay for your ticket in and any snacks that we get. Please just come to the game with me," Jess begged, giving me her puppy eyes. She should know by now that her puppy eyes never work on me. Puppy eyes only work with dogs.

"Fine, I'll go but you also have to stop bugging me about Josh. Because he is nothing more than an acquaint. I'll see you later," I replied, walking off. As I walk off I can hear Jess squeal. She's probably going to go make out with Ryan before she heads to her next class. I just roll my eyes and make my way to my next class. But along the way I bump into a tall figure.

"Hey Kat, I was looking for you," Josh's voice spoke.

"Great," I mumbled, looking up at him.

"I just wanted to say sorry about almost killing you yesterday. Maybe after school we can stop somewhere and get something to eat. We have today off of practice because they're repainting the field. I mean, only if you want to," Josh spoke all at once.

"Sure, sounds good," I replied, not really sure what he just asked. Either he asked to get something to eat or he asked if I wanted to help paint the football field. Either one sounds good to me at the moment.

"So, I'll meet you out in the parking lot after school?" Josh asked.

"Yeah," I answered, my mind drifting over to a conversation at the end of the hall. A girl with bright orange hair and a black hoodie stands at the end of the hall. The principal is explaining something to her. I use my hearing to listen in on their conversation.

"And again, welcome to Creeks Edge High. I'm going to have you go to sixth and seventh. Tomorrow morning we will get everything for you. You are a returning student to this district so it shouldn't be too difficult. Welcome back," The principal spoke, patting the girl on the back. The girl smiles and nods once. The principal then walks off and the girl comes are way.

"Who is she?" Josh asked, looking at the girl.

"No clue. I feel like I've seen her before. If she's returning then she must have lived here like years ago," I replied, studying the girls face. Her skin was pale, almost white. Her eyes were a brown color, a chocolate-brown. And then it hits me, she's Meg. She used to date Ryan back in 5th grade and got super upset when he broke up with her to be with Jess.

"Her name is Meg," I add quickly.

"Meg? She looks like a vampire. No one normally has skin that pale," Josh states.

"There are vampires here?" I asked, keeping my voice low so no one can hear us.

"Yes there are. We can discuss this after school. Parking lot, after school." He then walks off to his next class. I do the same, hoping to get there before the bell rings. Teachers get so mad when you're late. Especially when it's for a stupid reason like talking to someone in the hall.

I step into the classroom right as the bell rings. Time to get this over with.

Once the last bell rings, I get up and head out. Elena told me she was going to get a ride from one of her friends. Which I am thankful for because I really don't need Josh to see where I live and I don't need Elena finding out about the dangerous supernatural world. She doesn't need to know that I am among the killers of the town.

Speaking of Josh, he told me to meet him in the parking lot. But he didn't say where in the parking lot. So now I just have to figure out where in the parking lot he is going to be. I would assume somewhere near my car since he knows where I park every morning. I'm sure if I just walk outside I'll find him.

As soon as I step foot outside, wind hits my face. Where did this sudden wind come from? I use my hand to shield my eyes and keep walking. I make sure to keep an eye out for Josh. But with the wind it is rather difficult to see. The news man said nothing about wind today. He said that it was going to be perfectly sunny until tomorrow. Tomorrow is when the clouds roll in.

"Hey Kat," I heard a deep voice speak. The voice sounded familiar so I turn around to see who it is. Josh stands there, also shielding his eyes a bit to get a better look.

"Hey, ready to go and get out of this wind?" I asked, really wanting to get into my car so we can just get out of the wind. I was never really a fan of the wind.

"Hell yeah, let's go," Josh replied. We then started to walk to my car, the cool wind slamming against our skin. It is very strange that it got this windy out of nowhere. I know that this town is already full of supernatural creatures and weird sightings, but never strange weather. Then again, maybe it's just strange to me.

Once I reach my car, I unlock the door. I then unlock the entire car so Josh can get in. He opens the door and is in before I can blink. I open up the back door and throw my bag into the back. Josh lets out a groan as he puts his seat belt on.

"Are you okay?" I ask, glancing over at him as I start-up the car.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I just got a slight pain but it's all good now," he replied.

"A pain where?" I questioned, pulling out of my parking spot and carefully making my way to the exit of the parking lot.

"It doesn't matter, I'm fine now," he replied, brushing it off. I just sigh and exit the school parking lot. Josh hasn't told me where we are going so hopefully he tells me that before I get onto the main road. Other wise I am just going to pick a random café to go to.

"Where are we heading to?" I asked, glancing over at him for a second before averting my eyes back to the road.

"There's this one café that's on first and gardener that has amazing croissants. Like you need to try them ASAP," Josh replied, a wide smile playing at his lips.

"Croissants?" I asked, holding back my laughter by biting my lip a bit.

"Yeah, you got a problem with that?" he questions, getting into tough guy mode.

"Nope not at all. It's just a little weird because I have never met someone with such a strong love for croissants," I replied.

"Well, you've met me and I love croissants," he grinned.

I shake my head little and laugh to myself. Josh is defiantly an interesting person. He has a profound love for croissants. A love that I thought I would never see for that kind of food. Maybe he has some French blood in him. I heard French people like croissants. Or maybe he has so many of them that it's all he can consume without dying. I once read a girl ate so many chicken nuggets that she couldn't eat anything else but chicken nuggets.

Once I reach the intersection, it gets a bit darker since the clouds cover the sun. I glance at the sky for a moment, watching the clouds move. I then get this weird deja vu feeling. It feels like I have been here before, but on a different day in a different time. But it's just a weird feeling.

"You look so concentrated when driving," Josh spoke.

"Got to be concentrated unless you want me to crash," I replied, gripping the steering wheel more.

"I would rather not die today," Josh remarked.

"Then don't distract me," I replied. Soon we get to the café and I pull into a parking space, shutting off my car. This café is quite small. A few cars are in the parking lot. And when I look through the window, only three of the booths are in use. But I guess for a small café they have amazing croissants. Josh gets out of the car first. I follow his lead and lock the car, making sure that I didn't leave anything that is too valuable in there. Not like anyone would want t break into my car anyways. It's a boring SUV.

We walk into the café and Josh waves at least everyone in there. He's probably in here twice a day knowing him. And I'm sure they all know by now that he has a obession with their croissants.

"Wil it be the usual, Josh?" A brown-haired waitress with a revealing uniform asks. She seductively smiles at Josh and I just roll my eyes. Why do people need to sexualize their job?

"Yep and whatever Kat wants to order," Josh replied, glancing over at me.

"Coffee. Just plain black coffee that looks like my soul." I stated, putting on that innocent smile. The waitress rolls her eyes and then goes back to the kitchen to give the order to the cook. In the mean time, Josh leads me over to a booth and we sit. I set my phone and wallet onto the table.

"I've meant to ask since yesterday, but why do you drive an SUV? I mean, most high schoolers don't," he stated, folding his hands onto the table.

"It was my Dad's car. It got passed down to me because my mom didn't want to see it just sit in the garage," I replied.

"What happened to your dad? If you don't mind me asking."

"It's a long story. I'd rather not bring it up," I answered, awkwardly looking out the window. My dad died a few years ago. It was a bright spring afternoon and we decided to head to the beach. I was only fourteen and my sister was twelve. We loved spending time with our dad since he was always out. But that day didn't go as planned. My Dad decided that he wanted to show us a spot in the woods that he had found that was amazing. My sister was too scared since she heard stories about creatures in the woods. And me, well I knew the pack of wolves by the beach was the pack that was very violent and didn't like intruders.

I had zero time to warn my dad before they attacked him and killed him. The scratchesweren't deep to turn him, but he lost so much blood. That's why me and Elena never go to the beach anymore. It used to a place of happiness and wonder, now it's just a place of tragedy. I will never forget when I later saw my mom crying over my dad's dead body. It was like my heart shattering into pieces. Just seeing my mom cry broke my heart. And after that our family really never was the same.

"Kat?" Josh snapped his fingers in my place, bringing me back to reality.

"What? Did something happen?" I asked, looking back at him.

"No, but I can sense that something is about too. There's a strange creature near by," he spoke quietly.

"How do you know?" I asked, raising my eye brow slightly. I can usually only sense other wolves, but never other creatures. Even though earlier Meg did give off this weird vibes as she walked past me.

"I can smell it. It doesn't smell too good." And right after he says that a scream is heard. I quickly get up from my seat, gabbing my phone and wallet. I run to the door and out it. Right out side is a brown-haired girl laying on the pavement, her skin quickly turning pale. Blood starts to pool up next to her. Something or someone just killed her.

Josh stops behind me, his lean body slightly pressed against my back. My cheeks heat up a bit from how close we are, but I try not to acknowledge it.

"Told you t was something bad. We should follow the ambulance once it gets here. There we can get answers," Josh whispered into my ear, causing the hairs on the back of my neck to stand. I just nod in response and walk to my car. We might as well wait for the paramedics out of sight. If anyone sees us they are going to take us into questioning since were technically witnesses. We were here at the café when the crime happened.

"Do you see that?" Josh asked, grabbing my arm lightly to stop me.

"See what? A dead body? Yes I see that," I replied, yanking my arm from him.

"No, there's a symbol on her jacket. It's like a diamond with a skull," Josh replied. I turn and look at the girl's jacket. Sure enough there is a small diamond with a skull symbol on it. It looks like it was freshly branded on it too. It feels like I have seen that symbol somewhere before as well. But I can't put my finger on it.
