Chapter 5
The party was louder than expected and the volume was about three decimals away from making my eardrums pop. I covered my ears and looked around, hoping to find the stereo and gradually turn the music down to a level both the party-goers and I can agree on.

Unfortunately, the stereo was nowhere in sight. But I did find someone I didn't expect to meet.

I walked up to the tall boy, amazed that for once he wasn't in his hoodie.

"Kyle?" I called out. He turned towards me and gave me a lazy smile that made my heart flutter.

"Hey Amy." he shouted back. "I thought you didn't go to parties. 'Wasn't your style'."

"I could say the same for you!"

"What?" he leaned in closer. My breath hitched. shaking my head, I said in a lower tone, "I said, I could say the same for you."

He pulled back, looked me square in the face with a serious expression, then turned to the crowd as if he was searching for someone. His eyes landed somewhere and he smirked. Looking back at me, he leaned in and said, "Come on."

Kyle lay on the floor and rolled around laughing as I told him how I got here.

"Stop laughing! I was violated!" I said as I lightly kicked him.

I had told him the traumatizing events that I had to endure, from being pushed into a black dress to having to sit still as my face was violently powdered. And let me not get started on the mascara...

Kyle had come down from his high and I looked at him on the ground. He laid on his side with his wavy hair covering the surrounding floor. He looked hella cute.

His plain oversized sweater would look like a boy in daddy's sweater on any other person, but it suited him so well.

I cleared my throat and my thoughts.

"Anyway, I have to go. Gotta find my friends and tell them I'm going home."

"Leaving so soon? You haven't even danced yet."

"Yeah. Cause my dream dance is gyrating on a packed dance floor full of completely smashed teens. Woohoo." I raised my arms up lazily and let them fall back down.

"Come on. You have to meet a few people. Have a drink or two. Or do you not want to hang out with me?" He pouted. Damn you and your cute face you demon.

"...fine," I grumbled and he jumped up with a wide smile. "I'll stay for a little longer. Wait, didn't you come with someone?"

"Hm? Yeah. I did. My cousin. She said she... I don't even know where she went." He scratched the back of his head.

"Shouldn't we wait for her?"

"Nah. Believe it or not, but in the 5 hours she's been here, she found friends."

Kyle shook his head as he looked down with a lopsided smile. His hair flowed weightlessly and the sudden urge to touch it came up. I bet it feels like a cloud, light and fluffy.

"So, you don't really wanna be here, huh." He said as he threw our plastic cups in the trash can outside. We weren't monsters.

"Not really," I shrugged, "I just want to sleep."

He turned to me and lowered his head, looked me in the eyes as he held out his hand.

"Shall I take you, my lady?"

My heart faltered. "Thank you, prince Charming, but I can go home on my own," I said casually as I playfully swatted his hand away. If I held his hand, I'd probably go crazy.

"Right. But I'm not sobering up, so I need a walk..." he pouted and I rolled my eyes.
