Surprising foundling at my door
Next day, I woke up late. It was already 12 noon. I prepared cappuccino for myself and sat in front of the window looking at how the trees were swaying because of strong winds. I was still analysing yesterday's convo with Richard. Suddenly, I heard somebody knocking the door. I didn't invite any guests so I couldn't think of anyone who would bother me. I got up reluctantly from the chair and went towards the corridor to see who is that unexpected guest. When I opened the door, I couldn't believe my eyes! Inside a small basket, there was a baby! Who put the baby here and why? For few minutes I was thinking but then had no other way except taking the baby inside. As soon as I took the baby in, it started crying. As I wasn't used to a baby crying, I plugged my ears in order to not hear the horrible voice. After standing like I was chained with a basket in my hands for some time, I realised that the baby must be hungry. He kinda stopped crying when I tried feeding it with a cream I took from the cake which I had in my refrigerator, but the baby didn't seem to like it or want to eat it. What do kids eat?? Ahhh, I would be a bad mother, I don't know anything about babies. An idea came to my mind. Let me call Mary I thought. She is mother to 3 wonderful kids and is an expert in things related to children. Well, catching phone in one hand and the baby in the other hand wasn't an easy task but I managed to somehow call Mary. "Heyy, Melanie! What's up?!"
"Mary, I need your help. Can you tell me what do babies usually eat?"
"It depends upon the age of the baby. Why?". "Ahh Mary, don't even ask. You won't believe. Somebody dropped a foundling right at my door". "Whaaat?" Mary shouted. "How?".
"I don't know Mary. You better tell me what I should feed the baby. I think it's a boy but I can't guess his age. He must be a newborn". "Melanie, you just wait, as soon as I finish my work, I will come to you but until then, buy a baby bottle, milk powder for babies, read the instructions written on it on how to prepare it and then give it to him". "Okay, Mary, see you. Please come soon". I said and hung up the phone. I had to handle being alone with the baby for few hours. The boy didn't seem like he will stop crying. I tried to make him quiet by rocking him continuously. I couldn't obviously go out to buy food for the baby and leave him alone at home so I took him wrapped in blanket and went out to the nearest grocery. Ahhh, today wasn't my lucky day. I couldn't find a bottle there. They didn't even have powder. I had no other choice except heading towards the market which was located a bit far from my home. People around were observing me in a strange way. How much energy must this small piece of  living thing have that he didn't get tired of crying. After 10 minutes of walking, I was already inside the market looking for baby powder. Thank God I found it. Next I had to search for a bottle. Well, for this I had to ask the worker as I couldn't find it myself. The worker looked at me smiling and mumbled "Aww, what a sweet baby". Yeah, of course, sweet. He couldn't even imagine what I'm struggling with even if he wanted to. It's not a baby, it's a nightmare, I thought to myself. After buying all of what I needed, I left the market and hurried back home. I fed the baby and finally he fell asleep. Few hours went by as slow as full day. Finally, Mary arrived. "How's the situation here?" she asked. "He slept". I answered tiredly. "Did you feed him?" Mary asked. "Yeah, as soon as he finished drinking the milk, he slept". "OK, great". We should decide what we will do with this baby. We must find his mother". We both looked at each other with question marks in our heads.
