Just Me
My Task
Under The Stars
My Task
We load into the car, my mom, brother, and I. But I will not be going with them to their new house. No, I will be repaying my fathers' dept.

My ten-year-old brother, Lucas, makes car noises as he crashes his garbage truck into Mom's seat. I'd miss him so much once he was gone!

I comb through his chin length flames. He laughs, a pure and carefree sound. One I'd do anything to hear forever. I'd keep these moments with him close as I slept under the stars.

I could see it now. Me, Amanda Love, laying down, my head on my arms, to stare at the the four moons, that out shone any star or planet, sunk into a royal purple sky.

The task the goverment gave to me was hard and would take herculean efforts, but I didn't mind. It was a chance to change how they saw me. Right now, they saw me as Gabriel Loves' daughter.

This was something I had to do on my own though. I could have help, but I was to complete it alone.

My mother took one more glance at me, her eyes wet but not shedding tears.

Her voice is strong as she says, stopping the car, "This is your stop, Amanda.".

I grab my bag and sling it over my shoulder, clutching my violin case in my hand, putting my guitar case around my chest.

I didn't grab the boxes I packed, Mom would drop those off at the house I was staying at.

I ruffle Lucas's hair one more time, "Bye squirt.".

He nods, ignoring me, still playing with his trucks and cars.

I push the door open without another word. I start walking, hearing the sound of the car moving on, without me.

Don't cry, don't cry, don't you dare cry.

I shake my head, clearing my mind of all thoughts. I have to do this, I have to.
